Welcome!
In May 1999, Christy Sloan, an active 30 year-old living in Charlotte, N.C., was diagnosed with ALS. Learning that there was little known cause or cure for this disease, she began her own search for the most promising research projects underway. Christy soon discovered that the lack of funds directed to ALS research was a definite deterrent to moving projects from initial development to human trials to eventual general release to patients. Determined to fill this gap and aid in the advancement of ALS research, Christy, along with family and friends, founded ALS Race for Research, a donor-designated fund of the Foundation of the Carolinas.
The goal of ALS Race for Research is to secure funding in support of current research efforts focused on finding the cure for ALS. The ALS Race for Research Advisory Board has identified several research projects that could immediately benefit from our support. With additional funding provided by ALS Race for Research, these projects can move forward in identifying and implementing promising treatments for those living with ALS. The ultimate goal, of course, is to find the cure. ALS Race for Research will be bridging the gap between research and the cure.
